The 2011 Fullcourt Press Spring League tipped-off last Sunday (March 6th) at Cabrillo HS (Long Beach CA) and consisted of 10 individual (“Select”) teams as well as 18 club (“Elite”) squads such as Belmont Shore, Team Elite 40, Cal Select, CABC, Cali Rebels, Cali Style and Skywalkers with other squads like California Supreme, Compton Magic, Organized Chaos, 805, NOC Stars and Belmont Shore Gold scheduled to join them in the near future. Media on-hand on opening day included Dinos Trigonis (Fullcourt Press, Hoop Scoop & Nothing But Net), Matt Rodriguez (Ballislife.com), Sean Ceglinsky (ESPNLA.com), Johnny Hernandez (Next Level Connect & Elite 40) and Alan Utter (BruinBlitz.com).
Seth Greenberg and his Virginia Tech staff added a top fifty product over the weekend in 6-7 Montrezl Harrell, our No.48 rated junior, from Tarboro, NC North Edgecombe High according to the Daily Press. "It was a great environment to be in," Harrell told the Daily Press. "It just felt like another home, like I wasn't away from home."
He averaged 16 points and 12 rebounds along with 6.7 blocks a game while leading North Edgecombe to a 21-3 record this past winter. He is a long and explosive wing talent who can make an impact on both ends of the court. he uses his length and bounce to score with highlights off the dribble, and can alter shots and create havoc in paint on "D". He is just coming into his own on offense as he continues to add wing skills and consistency from arc with his shot. He will be an impact type atlete when he arrives on campus in the fall of 2012. He chose Virginia Tech over interest from Wake Forest, South Carolina, Xavier, Clemson, Miami (FL), and East Carolina.
