Just over a year ago, 6-6 jumping jack forward, Mario Redmond signed with Western Illinois , but he missed qualifying by one point, He headed west to Eldora, IA based Quakerdal Prep to play for head coach Stan Hughes. That move has been a positive for Redmond according to Coach Hughes.
"Mario is a freak athlete who can flat out attack the rim and create highlights," Coach Hughes told Hot100Hoops. "When he came here he had limited range on his shot and struggled to handle and create with dribble to get to the rim."
But, Mario is a great worker, who's hungry and wants to learn and be the best player he can," Hughes continued. "He has developed a solid mid-range game and is getting to be a horse going to the hoop."
He's currently averaging 12.4 points and pulling down 7 boards for the Eagles this winter. He has seen his game improve and with it the interest of college coaches accoring to Coach Hughes.
"He is hearing from a variety of schools including Alcorn State, San Jose State, East Tennessee State, Eastern Kentucky, Coastal Carolina, Tennessee Martin, Florida International, Texas A&M-CC, and Duquesne. Recently that list has grown as Baylor, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, Iowa State, Valparaiso, and Western Kentucky have been calling or stopped by to see him play.
