Tuesday, 12 July 2011 05:14 Written by Van Coleman

We continued the summer evaluation period with a stop, yesterday and this morning, in Myrtle Beach, SC at the 2011 Big Shots Atlantic Slam. The tournament features a somewhat unique two day format, and spans three different tournaments over itsnerlens_noel six days. We caught the end of Slam II and the opening of Slam III. The Slam II title went to Team Breakdown out of Florida with a 68-52 victory over the Carolina Ravens. Slam I was won by Team Loaded led by 6-0 point guard Tyler Lewis, but he had to leave because of illness in the family (our prayers are with his family). But, we observed some quality talent and some new names for coaches to check out. So with that in mind, let’s take a look at the top performers and surprises on the two days we were in Myrtle Beach -

Top Performers & Surprises – (Listed by height)

Nerlens Noel 6-11 C (2013) (pictured)Tilton, NH School (BABC) – He continues to impress with his fast developing offensive game hitting elbow jumper and getting to rim with dribble drive. If offense continues to develop, look for this shot blocker to change for top spot in class!

Brandon Watkins 6-10 C (2013) Atlanta, GA Grady ( Georgia Stars) – This athletic and quick insider blocked shots, crashed the glass and ran floor like a wing while we watched. He scores on blocks, but needs to work on extending game on the floor.
