In what was an amazing run, the All-Ohio Red (sans starting point guard Terry Rozier) won the 2011 17-Under AAU National Championship with a 60-48 victory over the talented Memphis YOMCA squad at the HP Fieldhouse at the ESPN Wide World
of Sports in Kissimmee, FL earlier this evening.
It was a close game throughout the first half, as YOMCA led 29-28 over All-Ohio at the half. But, the hot shooting All-Ohio Squad hit 54% from the field and took advantage of their aggressive style on the glass and around the hoop to score 42 of their 60 points in the paint to win a hard fought 60-48 decision over YOMCA.
All-Ohio Red was led by 6-7 Devon Scott with 16 points and 7 rebounds. YOMCA was led by Anthon Bell with 18 points, while Oak Hill forward Jarnell Stokes chipped in with 17 points and and 12 rebounds in the loss. It was the second national title that YOMCA just missed on, as they finished second to BABC in the Peach Jam (Nike Team EYBL Championships) earlier in July.
In the Semi-finals All-Ohio Red knocked off the Alabama Challenge 72 - 68 in a thriller, while Memphis YOMCA survived a real war with the CP3 All-Stars 51-48 to the final.
The fifth place game went to the All- Iowa Attack 77-66 over the Boo Williams Summer League. The Attack advanced in the morning game with a 68-54 victory over the Birmingham Storm, while Boo Williams advanced with a win over the GA Stars. Birmingham finished seventh (no score), while the Stars rounded out the top eight on the final day of action in the 2011 AAU Junior Championships.
