The 2011 All-East Frosh/Soph Camp had a successful weekend, despite having to compete with the biggest pre-Halloween snow storm on record in the Northeast, as many of the top players in the states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania made it to Riverwinds Center. The Storm kept the Massachusetts and Connecticut talent home, but still the top talent featured highly regarded Horace Spencer (2015), Jaquan Newton (2014), Isaiah Briscoe (2015), Ben Bentil (2014), and Malik Ellison (2015) among the Cream of the Crop this past weekend in Thorofare, NJ. So, with that in mind here's a look at the top performers in the Top 30 Cream of the Crop game and the other talent that performed at a high level at the Pangos All-Frosh/Soph Camp:
Top 30 Cream of the Crop Prospects - (Listed By Height)
Horace Spencer 6’9” 2015 (pictured) Willow Grove, PA Tennet - Our top rated player in the Class of 2015 had some flashes of brilliance, knocking down perimeter jumper to set up drive and dunk or pull-up jumper, but he tended to float at times and is going to have to use his considerable tools all the time to hold onto that lofty spot in his glass. But, all the tools to play facing are there, and he can post and score with either hand down on the blocks to balance his game. He just needs to keep the motor running at all times! Really brought it on Sunday and earned camp MOP honors.
Ben Bentil 6’8” 2014 Middleton, DE St. Andrews - Long and bouncy big man blocked shots, cleared the boards and finished with dunk around hoop. He can pop out and knock down ten footer too. One to watch as he adds offensive tools to his game as he is quick and can really run the floor.
Tim Delaney 6’8” 2015 Pittman, NJ High - Physical rebounder gets on boards and finishes around hoop on offensive end. he showed range to arc, but was at best hitting 12-15 footer on face-up. He really got after it on "D" and can block shots and deny pass in the post.
Quadree Smith 6’7” 2014 Temple Hills, MD Paul VI - Wide bodied big man uses his body to create space on blocks and finishes with strength around the hoop. He ran floor well in early games, but showed he needs to drop 20-30 pounds to add endurance he'll need at next level.
Trevaughn Wilkerson 6’7” 2015 Philadelphia, PA Roman Catholic - Another of the athletic shot blocking big men, he really ran the floor and finished with some monster dunks in transition and on the put backs on offensive glass. He has lots of raw tools and a huge upside.
Matthew Klinewski 6’6” 2014 Voorhees, NJ Eastern Regional - This hard working power forward really grew on me with his high motor and ability to face and attack the basket. He has a great nose for ball on the glass and a knack for finishing at the rim.
Basil Thompson 6’6” 2014 Philadelphia, PA Math & Civic Science - This active insider gets on the glass, outlets and fills a lane in transition. he has good hands, catches in traffic and finishes with strength at the rim. he also popped out and knocked down 12-15 footer too. One to watch as he extends his game to facing.
Clint Robinson 6’6” 2014 Hyattsville, MD Flower - He has good bounce and can catch and finish with dunk in the paint or off the baseline drive. He is a good rebounder who runs floor hard and will make plays on defense with length and quick hands.
Tony Toplyn 6’6” 2014 Philadelphia, PA Neumann-Goretti - He is an athletic insider with quick feet who can score with bounce in the paint. He took it end to end on couple occasions and can score off the dribble on pop out and drive. He gets off floor quickly and made tip dunk on couple of occasions.
Manny Taylor 6’6” 2015 Burlington, NJ Life Center - Strong and physical insider who knows how to post and get the ball to the rim. He controls boards and can score with either hand on the blocks. He also hit a face up jumper from 12-feet on po[p out..
Sedee Keita 6’6” 2015 Middletown, DE Appoquimmink - Raw, but long shot blocker gets after every ball in the paint. He can really rebound, outlet and run the floor. He does most of his damage with dunk, but did pop a couple eight footers in night game. One for the future, especially if he continues to add inches.
Carnel Harley 6’6” 2015 Philadelphia, PA West Philadelphia Catholic - Active insider has quick bounce on the finish, can face and pop from 12-feet, and will swat shots from help side. He showed he can pass it out of the post up or facing. Look for him to extend game to wing in the future.
Jahyde Gardner 6’5” 2014 Philadelphia, PA Friere Charter - Athletic wing man can take it off the boards and go end to end, scoring with pull-up jumper, or dunk at the rim. He is a good passer too, and showed range to 17-feet on catch and shoot. As range extends his stock will continue to rise!
Samson Usilo 6’5” 2014 Brooklyn, NY Nazareth Regional - This athletic wing has huge vertical and made crowd buzz on number of occasions with thunderous dunks. He has good ball skills, but needs to work on extending shot with consistency to utilize all his athletic gifts. One to watch as range extends!
Sean Lloyd 6’4” 2014 Philadelphia, PA Franklin Learning Center - Strong wing can knock down mid-range jumper or attack the hoop and finish with dunk in traffic. He can get on glass and start break too. He needs to extend shot range to reach full potential handle and quicks showed.
Malik Starkes 6’4” 2014 Philadelphia, PA Math, Civics & Science - Athletic wing can score at rim with dunk or post wings and scores with quick feet and bounce in the paint. He showed range to the arc and needs to use shot more to set up dribble drive to continue to lift game to levels athleticism promises.
Elisha Boone 6’3” 2014 Brooklyn, NY Bishop Loughlin - Athletic wing guard can start the break off the glass and is a good passer in open court. He hit jumper off the dribble inside the arc and finished drive at the rim with strength. He has combo skills, but is currently a scorer in half court game.
Malcolm Smith 6’3” 2014 Beltsville, MD Princeton Day School - Slasher and driver can get to rim and finish with either hand. he showed range to three, but needs to make shot more of a weapon especially off the dribble to balance his game.
Wade Baldwin 6’3” 2014 Bellwood, NJ Immaculata - This quick and explosive back court talent, can flat out push it in open court and is a pin point passer who delivers it to open man. He hit jumper to the arc and really showed he can create with rock in the night cap
Isaiah Briscoe 6’3” 2015 St. Benedicts Newark, NJ - Talented offensive minded can knock down jumper from three that sets up his ability to drive and finish in traffic. He has handle and tools to take off the glass and go end to end. He can pass rock as he showed in night games, so he could become combo down the road. One of East Coast's top young guards.
Levan Alston 6’3” 2015 Haverford School Haverford, PA - Solid combo has size and quickness to play both spots in the back court. He is an excellent passer in open court and sees the cutter like a point. He hit jumper off the dribble and stock will continue to rise as he extends range and continues to develop at the point.
Isaiah Washington 6’3” 2015 Williamsport, PA High - He tried to do too much early, but exploded in night game hitting pull-up jumper off the dribble that set up a monster jam off the dribble that had the whole place buzzing as he rose up and through it down over a couple big dudes! He has solid perimeter skills and as range extends is definitely one to watch.
Shepard Gardner III 6’2” 2014 Philadelphia, PA Roman Catholic - Quick combo guard can knock down open jumper from three, but is at his best taking it end to end in transition or in half-court with dribble drive. He is a solid passer too!
Conrad Chambers 6’1” 2014 Chester, PA Friends Central - Another quick combo who has lots of point skills. He can attack rim with either hand and is a good passer in transition game. He needs to develop range on jumper to keep "D" honest and become a threat to score with mid-range game to continue to raise his stock.
Jaquan Newton 6’1” 2014 Philadelphia, PA Neumann-Goretti - Explosive combo can slash to hoop and finish with dunk or kick it to open man on the wing. He is tough in transition, but need to extend jumper outside 15-feet to reach potential his quicks and ball skills promise, so stay tuned.
Darnell Foreman 6’0” 2014 Jersey City, NJ St. Anthony - Scoring point knocked down jumper from arc or off the dribble from 12-15 feet. He can finish in traffic with either hand. He has tools to run show, but has to become more pass oriented to reach full potential of what we saw at the Pangos.
Sammy Foreman 6’0” 2015 Haverford, PA Haverford School - Young combo had flashes of offensive explosion where he scored with drive or jumper from 15-17 feet off the dribble. He can attack hoop with either hand and is a good passer in transition game.
Marcus Floyd 5’9” 2015 Malvern, PA Phelps School - Solid pass first point guard can push it in transition or attack with dribble drive and hit open man. He can get to rim and finish, but he needs to use jumper to set up drive to continue to raise level.
