Creighton adds Wisconsin big man

Saturday, 23 June 2012 15:39 Written by Van Coleman

Creighton picked up a key commitment today from a big man from Wisconsin. Toby Hegner, a 6-foot-9,Creigh-Jays_logo 200-pound power forward from Berlin, Wis., is on board with the Omaha school.

Hegner becomes the first recruit in the Class of 2013 for Creighton. He plays club ball for the Wisconsin Playmakers.

He chose the Bluejays over programs such as Iowa State, Northwestern, Drake, Marquette, Boston College, Bradley, Central Michigan, Colorado State and Green Bay and others.

Berlin, a Division 3 school, had a rough season going 11-13 in 2011-12. Hegner is considered a solid low-post presence but will need to add upper body muscle and bulk to withstand the wars on the boards in the Missouri Valley Conference.
